In this workshop, award-winning author Katie Bickell shows you how to craft powerful narratives in 1,000 words, 500 words, even 100! Katie will deconstruct the short fiction format at its most basic level and share her techniques for succinct-but-rich storytelling, in between a few brief writing prompts. Expect to leave the class with a draft piece of flash fiction and a list of markets open to submissions.

About the instructor: Katie Bickell is the author of Always Brave, Sometimes Kind, a novel told in linked short stories. Earlier chapters from the novel won the Alberta Literary Award’s Howard O’Hagan Award for Short Story, the Writer’s Guild of Alberta’s Emerging Writer Award, and the Alberta Views Fiction Contest. Katie lives with her husband and daughters in Sherwood Park, Alberta, where she serves jobseekers, business owners, and emerging writers through her business, Katie Bickell and The Word Shop.
